A business consultant offers independent specialist advice and expertise in a chosen area of work. The consultant will probably be independent and may advise on business, financial management, strategy, planning, start-up, exit, undertake research, employee matters, training and so on.
A consultant is a person, either working independently or with others, who sell professional advice. It is common to find that each consultant will have an area of specialism and will be viewed as an ‘expert’ in that field.
The work of a consultant will include the analysis of information, data, anglicizing the environment and presenting proposals to address areas for improvement. As a consequence the consultant will be required to demonstrate expertise in his/her core discipline as well as good business and management skills.
The ability to continually improve good people skills in order to maintain client relationships is of paramount importance whilst the commitment to maintain a professional development programme will afford the consultant up to date knowledge to discharge work.
